Shooting at Howe Park Injures 4 Shot in Arden-Arcade Sacramento
Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are probing a shooting incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Park in Sacramento at the time deputies were dissolving an unlawful assembly of multiple hundreds of people.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to the park around 6:30 PM after being notified of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. After that, a second call came in about a possible fight happening near the park.
An overhead unit conducted an aerial sweep but reported no active disturbance. Despite this, it was evident that several hundred individuals had packed into the park without any permit or approval.
The Shooting Itself
Officers started clearing the unauthorized gathering by surrounding the park and broadcasting over loudspeakers ordering the crowd to clear out. Around 15 minutes were provided for the gathering to break up.
As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots were discharged. Gunfire sent the crowd running in all here directions. Law enforcement wasted no time in looking for those injured.
Four Victims Hospitalized
By the time the scene was secured, four individuals were confirmed as gunshot victims. All four — comprising three men and one woman each reported to be in their 20s at the time of the incident — were airlifted or driven to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Medical personnel noted that two had critical injury classifications, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
Metro Fire Sacramento were called to the scene and helped care for those with gunshot wounds before they were taken to the hospital.
Evidence at the Scene
The bulk of the shooting was determined to have occurred along Cottage Way close to the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. CSI personnel found further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Bullet holes were identified in the wrought iron fence bordering the Home Depot. These discoveries pointed to that a second shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down during the incident. CSI units alongside detectives continued working through the early morning hours.
Suspects Detained
Information relayed through law enforcement radio communications confirmed that a Kia connected to the shooting was contacted by law enforcement in the Solano County area. Four suspects were taken into custody. Deputies were traveling to Solano County to pick up those detained for processing in Sacramento County. Video that was reviewed showed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
